Cynthia Caparosa Sniscak, LPC, RPT-S, CFT-S-I, served as the President and Senior Clinicians of the Beech Street Program in Carlisle, Pennsylvania for many years. Her credentials have included Licensed Professional Counselor, Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor, and Certified Filial Therapist-Supervisor-Instructor. The Beech Street Program offered comprehensive mental health services to children, adolescents, and families serving the 5-county area surrounding Carlisle. It was known for its relaxed, playful, and family-friendly services. Cindy specialized in the use of play therapy, Filial Therapy, family therapy, parent consultation, behavior management, and other interventions with children and families with a wide range of challenges. She also worked extensively with children who had experienced medical problems, trauma, abuse, or attachment difficulties, including reactive attachment disorder.
For decades, Cindy was a leading therapist and trainer in the use of Filial Therapy, especially with foster care, kinship care, and adoptive families. She worked closely with parents and caregivers throughout the therapeutic process, and coordinated with foster placement, adoption, child protective, medical, educational, and mental health organizations. Ms. Sniscak received the Family Enhancement & Play Therapy Center’s inaugural Award for Outstanding Contributions to Filial Therapy Practice and Training in 2007.
Cindy frequently provided training for child-related community organizations, as well as advanced workshops for state, national, and international child/family professionals, universities, and organizations. She served as Board Member and Conference Chair for the Pennsylvania Association for Play Therapy. She authored numerous chapters and articles in her areas of expertise. She is a coauthor of the acclaimed book, Child Centered Play Therapy (Guilford), and a recipient of PAAPT’s Louise and Bernard Guerney Excellence in the Promotion of Play Therapy Award. She is also an accomplished potter who frequently incorporated artistic options in her therapy work.
