Betsy Atkins (USA – AK)

Betsy Atkins, LCSW, RPT-S, lives and provides therapeutic care for children and families in Anchorage, Alaska. She is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and a Registered Play Therapist-Supervisor. She provides support to children who are facing a range of issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, family conflict, divorce, blended family issues, conduct disorder, anger and aggression, and individuals with autism. Betsy classifies herself as a “prescriptive play therapist” providing her the flexibility to meet a child where they currently are and guiding families to meet their emotional needs. Styles of play therapy range from directive play to child-centered and Filial. Throughout most of her career as a play therapist she has focused her care for families through the use of Filial Therapy. Having been trained by Dr. Risë VanFleet through the Family Enhancement & Play Therapy Center, Betsy believes that she has been provided an opportunity to continue the authenticity of the Filial Therapy modality. In all cases despite the primary modality selected, Betsy includes the entire family for a full systems approach towards achieving goals set.  Play for many children is their communication tool and Betsy helps families decode what the play is saying to help foster understanding and to meet the child’s needs. Betsy had completed the Certified Filial Therapy Instructor requirements and is eager to train others in this effective evidence-based approach to children and families.
