Risë VanFleet, Ph.D., RPT-S, CDBC, founder of the Playful Pooch Program, has just been notified that she has received the Pennsylvania Psychological Association’s Distinguished Contributions to the Science and Profession of Psychology Award for her pioneering work in play therapy and Animal Assisted Play Therapy. She will be given the award at PPA’s Annual Convention in June.

Two online courses are up and running from this site! The first is called Introduction to Animal Assisted Play Therapy, and the other is called Canine Communication in Animal Assisted Play Therapy. Both are self-paced courses with PowerPoint, videos, and other document links included. The required texts can be ordered separately at a discount separately. Full course descriptions and fees are included in the section of this site called Courses, and then immediately below that in the drop-down menu, called Online Course Catalog.

We are nearing the completion of our third course, Canine Behavior and Training, and we hope to have that up and running sometime in February 2013.

Our full schedule of live courses for the United States and the United Kingdom is available on our related website,, under Training. Online courses are included in the registration fees as well!
Risë VanFleet runs two groups on Facebook that might be of interest to you:
1) Animal Assisted Play Therapy
2) Animals and Play
Both are closed groups, but if you are interested you can either “friend” Dr. VanFleet and let her know you want to be added, or you can go to the group and ask to be added!
We are still actively developing the rest of this site. Please stay tuned as we add other features!
